On 24 May 2026, within the framework of his working visit to the Republic of Tajikistan aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation with various relevant institutions and agencies, as well as participating in the Fourth High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018–2028”, held in Dushanbe, the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Mr. Martin Chungong, together with a distinguished delegation, visited the National Museum to become acquainted with the ancient history and civilization of the Tajik people.
The guests were welcomed by the responsible officials of the institution, while the delegation was accompanied by Aziz Giyozoda, Deputy Speaker of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan.
A professional museum tour through the exhibition halls of the museum was organized for the delegation. During the экскурсия, the guests became acquainted with the millennia-old history and civilization of the Tajik people through the unique monuments of the Great Silk Road, in the development of which the indigenous peoples of Central Asia – the ancestors of the Tajiks, namely the Sogdians and Bactrians – played a significant role in ancient times. These monuments have gained international recognition and are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Mr. Martin Chungong and the representatives of the Inter-Parliamentary Union expressed their satisfaction with visiting the exhibition halls of the National Museum and left their impressions in the museum’s “Honoured Guests” book.
At the conclusion of the visit, as a sign of respect, the guests were presented with catalogues featuring selected masterpieces from the National Museum’s collection.
