Today 12.09.2024 in the State Institution ‘National Museum’ of the Executive Office of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan held a scientific-theoretical conference on the theme ‘The role of Tajiks in the formation and development of the Great Silk Road’, dedicated to the inclusion of cultural monuments of the transboundary Silk Road in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The conference was attended by Director of the National Museum Ibrahimzoda Zafarsho Safo, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan – Yusufshoh Yakubov, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Ancient World History, Middle Ages and Archaeology of the Tajik National University – Rahmonali Sharipov, Associate Professor of the Department of Foreign Regional Studies of the Tajik National University Abdulgani Mamadazimov, Mirzoev Farhod – senior lecturer of the Department of World History and International Relations of the Tajik State Pedagogical University the University named after Sadriddin Ayni and Associate Professor of the Department of History of the Ancient World, the Middle Ages and Archaeology of the National University of Tajikistan – Firuz Shoinbekov.
The Great Silk Road is regarded as a conduit for integration, exchange and dialogue between East and West, and has made a significant contribution to the development and prosperity of human civilisation for over two thousand years. Trade agreements and cultural interactions were conducted via this caravan route, which stretched from China through Central Asia to Rome. For many centuries, the ancestors of the Tajiks were the primary supporters of this route.
At the conference, scientists presented a series of reports on a range of topics related to the history of the Silk Road. These included the “Founders of the Great Silk Road”, “Migration of the Tahorids along the Silk Road”, “Silk Diplomacy as the basis for the formation and functioning of the Great Silk Road”, “Pamir fortresses and their connection with the Silk Road” and “The status of trade routes during the Achaemenid period”.
At the end, a discussion and exchange of views took place between the participants of the conference on the topic “The role of Tajiks in the formation and development of the Great Silk Road”.
