Opening of the exhibition “meeting” at the national museum
On April 14, 2026, a ceremonial opening of the exhibition of restored artworks entitled “Meeting” was held at the State Institution National Museum of Tajikistan of the Executive Office of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the State Independence of the Republic of Tajikistan.
During the official part of the event, the Director of the Museum, Ibrohimzoda Zafarsho Safo, Advisor to the Sector of the Assistant to the President of the Republic of Tajikistan on Social Development and Public Relations, Shukhrat Azizoda, Minister of Culture of the Republic of Tajikistan, Matlubakhon Sattoriyon, and Chairperson of the Union of Artists of Tajikistan, Nargis Hamidova, emphasized in their speeches that, during the period of state independence, the preservation, conservation, and restoration of historical and cultural heritage have become one of the priority directions of the country’s cultural policy. This process holds particular significance as a key component of national identity formation and the revival of historical and cultural values.
The event represents a continuation of constructive initiatives aimed at the revival and safeguarding of the nation’s rich cultural heritage during the years of independence. The core of the exhibition consists of 73 unique paintings created by renowned artists of the Soviet period, including M. Khoshmukhamadov, V. Sidorenko, Kh. Khushbakhtov, V. Boborikin, A. Khaidarov, and others.
A distinctive feature of the exhibition is that these works had not been displayed since the 1960s due to the need for restoration. A special place in the exhibition is occupied by the work of the German artist A. Winkler, “Mountain Landscape. Mid-19th Century,” which is the earliest piece in the presented collection and is recognized as the “gem of the exhibition.”
It should be noted that all exhibited works are being presented to the general public for the first time after undergoing a complex process of restoration and conservation. The exhibition is characterized by a wide diversity of genres and styles, encompassing both realistic and imaginative works. Visitors have the opportunity to become acquainted with outstanding examples of portraiture, landscape painting, as well as depictions of historical events and everyday life.
In addition to paintings, the exhibition also features various examples of sculpture (statues and busts), as well as works of decorative and applied arts, including ceramics and artistic carving.
The exhibition “Meeting” serves as a symbol of respect for the history of national art and reflects the state’s particular attention to the preservation of spiritual and cultural values in this юбилейный year.
The exhibition will run until May 20, 2026.
