Hosting of the international event ‘Night at the museum – 2026’ at the National museum
On 18 May 2026, the State Institution “National Museum” of the Executive Office of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan hosted the international event “Night at the Museum – 2026” to mark the 35th anniversary of the Republic of Tajikistan’s independence and International Museum Day.
The official opening ceremony was attended by the Director of the National Museum, Mr. Ibrohimzoda Zafarsho Safo, the Head of the Department of Education, Culture and Information of the Executive Office of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Mr. Quvvatzoda Saidullo Zuvaid, the Deputy Chairman of the City of Dushanbe, Ms. Dilbar Odilzoda, a representative of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tajikistan, Mr. Bobozoda Faridun Tolibjon, Professor at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology (Germany), Ms. Ainash Childibaeva, the Director of Open Joint Stock Company “Alif Bank,” Ms. Gulanor Atobek, and a representative of LLC “Taj Motors,” Ms. Kibriyo Ishon Khojaeva. In their remarks, they highlighted the historical and cultural significance of the “Museum Night” initiative and extended congratulations on the occasion of International Museum Day.
The event was also attended by ambassadors and representatives of the embassies of the Russian Federation, the People’s Republic of China, the United States, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Turkmenistan, Turkey, India, South Korea, Palestine, Pakistan, the Republic of Kazakhstan, Japan and Afghanistan, representatives of international organisations, event sponsors and representatives of the national media.
The “Museum Night” initiative was held for the thirteenth time and welcomed both domestic and international visitors, as well as all those interested in the history and cultural heritage of Tajikistan. Within the framework of the program, 35 cultural, educational, and entertainment activities were organized across the museum’s exhibition halls and corridors.
The program included theatrical performances dedicated to prominent historical and cultural figures, including “Borbad Marvazi а Great Master of Music,” dedicated to the inclusion of his name in the UNESCO list of outstanding cultural figures; “Robiya Balkhi -the First Tajik Woman Poet with a Divan,” dedicated to the 1050th anniversary of her birth; “The Splendor of the Kushan Era and the Wisdom of Lady Sagkin”; and the literary and artistic program “Mirzo Tursunzoda -Poet of Peace and Unity,” dedicated to the 115th anniversary of the birth of the Hero of Tajikistan, Mirzo Tursunzoda.
The event further featured the intellectual competition “A Civilized Nation: 35 Milestone of Destiny,” dedicated to the 35th anniversary of State Independence; interactive intellectual activities including crossword and word puzzle competitions; the program “Dialogue between Humans and Artificial Intelligence” with the participation of a robotic system, focusing on digital transformation and artificial intelligence; as well as quizzes with commemorative prizes and the children’s show “Cosmo Land”.
Additional activities included a performance on the musical instrument “Qanun” by Guljakhon Ilkhomi; master classes in traditional crafts such as restoration techniques, Badakhshan sock knitting, kundal painting, and Tajik embroidery; the program “From Artifact Discovery to Museum Exhibit”; an exhibition of works by the founder of the Tajik school of painting, Abdullo Ashurov; presentations of scientific and archaeological achievements of the National Museum; a tourism exhibition featuring national travel companies; an exhibition of restored artworks titled “Didor”; an exhibition organized by foreign diplomatic missions; the interactive exhibition “A 3D Journey into the World of Glaciers”; and the cultural evening “Shohnomakhoni”, among other initiatives reflecting the rich historical and cultural heritage of the Tajik people.
On the facade of the museum, a large-scale screening of a documentary film showcasing the cultural achievements of the Republic of Tajikistan during the period of State independence was presented. In addition, a festive concert titled “Nuri Istiklol” was held at the main entrance for residents and guests of the capital.
The international campaign “Museum Night -2026” was attended by 15,980 visitors and was conducted in an atmosphere of peace, friendship, and cultural unity.
