Сommencement of archaeological work at the Halkadjar site

One of the key priorities of the State Institution “National Museum” under the Executive Office of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan is the research, study, and discovery of unique historical artifacts at archaeological sites located throughout the country.
Among the most prominent sites from the Kushan period is the Halkadjar archaeological site, located in the Khuroson District of Khatlon Province. Excavations at this site were previously conducted in 1958, 1973, and 1981 under the direction of renowned archaeologists T. I. Zeimal, B. A. Litvinsky, and A. V. Sedov.
It is noteworthy that in the period of national independence, this site was first studied in 2001 by academician Yusufshoh Yakubov, followed by further investigations conducted by specialists of the National Museum in 2014 and 2020, which resulted in the discovery of various historical artifacts.
In the current year, starting on May 20, 2025, archaeologists from the State Institution “National Museum” under the Executive Office of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, on the basis of an official permit issued by the Agency for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Heritage under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, have resumed scientific archaeological research at the Halkadjar site, located in the village of Kyzylkala, Khuroson District.
Undoubtedly, the continued study of this unique and relatively underexplored site will contribute to the discovery of new chapters in the history of the Tajik people and will make valuable findings accessible to both the general public and the academic community.
