Presentation of the monuments of the National museum of Tajikistan at the international exhibition “Cultural heritage of national museums of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization” at the National museum of China
On the eve of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit, the State Institution “National Museum” of the Executive Office of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan took part in the jubilee exhibition at the National Museum of the People’s Republic of China.
The 24 artifacts presented by the State Institution “National Museum” of the Executive Office of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan for the exhibition “Cultural Heritage of National Museums of the Member States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization” are unique and cover a period from the 5th–4th centuries BC up to the 20th century.
The oldest exhibit of the Tajik exhibition corner is a fragment of a throne in the form of a mountain ram’s head, discovered at the archaeological site of Isfarasoy in the city of Konibodom, dating back to the 5th century BC. A censer with an image of Buddha, belonging to the Kushan era (1st–4th centuries AD), reflects the ancient culture and tolerance of the people.
Artifacts from ancient Panjakent (5th–7th centuries AD), known worldwide as the “Pompeii of the East,” include a seal and a stone with a Sogdian inscription. Ceramic and copper vessels with inscriptions demonstrate the flourishing of folk crafts during the “Golden Age” — the Samanid period (9th–10th centuries AD). Also presented at the exhibition are examples of copperware, such as jugs and washbasins decorated with depictions of deer. Pen cases contain moral aphorisms. The exhibited musical instruments highlight the high level of Tajik musical artistry.
It should be noted that this exhibition will continue until November 16, 2025.
