From 11 to 14 March this year, in honor of the World Glacier Day, on the initiative of the Executive body of State Power of the city of Dushanbe, in support of international initiatives of the Founder of Peace and National Unity – Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Honorable Emomali Rahmon on water and climate issues, As well as to promote Tajikistan’s international initiatives related to the declaration of 2025 as the ‘International Year of Glacier Conservation’ and the establishment of 21 March as the ‘World Glacier Day’, a visit was organized for residents and activists of the city of Dushanbe.
Today, in connection with the development of domestic tourism, a tour of this hall was held with the participation of heads of structural subdivisions of the Office of the President of Dushanbe, the executive body of state power of the city of Dushanbe, employees of the education, health and culture spheres of the capital.
As part of the visit, the guides presented the main contents of Tajikistan’s initiatives in the field of water and glaciers to the participants of the event.
The participants were informed that the right and left walls of the hall reflect the world’s largest glacier, Vanjyakh, located on the eastern slope of the Academy of Sciences mountain range in the Pamirs. This glacier is formed by the connection of the Academy of Sciences mountain range with the Yazgulom mountain range at the Inqilob peak (6974 m). The Vanjyakh Glacier is considered to be the largest mountain glacier not only in Tajikistan, but also in the world, and is included in the book “Land Records”.
A part of the hall is also dedicated to the Antarctic, reflecting the fact that with the direct support of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, the first Antarctic expedition of Tajikistan was organized in 2008-2009, during which Professor Abdulhamid Kayumov raised the flag of the Republic of Tajikistan in the Antarctic. This act demonstrates the attention of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, to the glacier sector and its protection.
