Opening of the international exhibition “Memory of Hafez” at the National museum
On May 5, 2025, the State Institution “National Museum” of the Executive Office of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan inaugurated the exhibition “Memory of Hafez”, featuring the works of the renowned German painter and sculptor, Professor Günther Uecker, in honor of the 700th anniversary of Hafez of Shiraz.
The official opening ceremony was attended and addressed by the Director of the National Museum –Ibrohimzoda Zafarsho Safo , the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Tajikistan – Sattoriyon Matlubakhon Amonzoda, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Tajikistan – York Schuegraf, among others. The exhibition was also attended by staff of the National Museum, representatives of the diplomatic corps and international organizations based in the Republic of Tajikistan, professors and students of the State Institute of Fine Arts and Design of Tajikistan, media representatives, local guests, foreign tourists, and art lovers.
The exhibition showcases more than 40 rare visual artworks dedicated to the legacy of the great Tajik-Persian poet Khwāja Hafez Shirazi. Additionally, two decorative-applied art pieces—bronze sculptures titled “The Book Pillow” and “Bread”, created by Professor Günther Uecker at different times—are presented to the public.
Günther Uecker is deeply inspired by the poetry of Hafez and is the author of a series of works dedicated to the legacy of this celebrated Tajik-Persian poet. Under the common title “Memory of Hafez”, these works have previously been exhibited at the Tomb of Hafez, the National Library and Archive in Shiraz, the Imam Ali Museum in Tehran, as well as in the city of Düsseldorf, Germany.
According to the artist, the poetry of Hafez stirs the soul, inspires through the power of words, sets thoughts into motion, and accompanies the poet in creative visualization. All this philosophy and spirituality are embodied in the artist’s works.
The exhibition “Memory of Hafez” by the renowned German painter and sculptor Professor Günther Uecker will remain open at the National Museum until July 5, 2025.
