Glaciers – Tajikistan’s Priceless Treasure
On February 26, 2025, in honor of the declaration of 2025 as the “International Year of Glacier Preservation” and March 21 as “World Glacier Day,” the State Institution “National Museum” of the Executive Office of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, hosted a national scientific conference titled “Glaciers – Tajikistan’s Priceless Treasure.” The conference featured presentations from prominent experts, including Ibrohimzoda Zafarsho Safo, Director of the National Museum; Professor Abdulhamid Qayumov, Senior Specialist at the Glacier Research Center of the Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan; Abdusamad Khojiev, Head of the Glaciology Department at the Glaciology Center of the Hydrometeorology Agency under the Committee for Environmental Protection of the Government of Tajikistan; Sharifzoda Gul Vahob, Associate Professor at the Department of Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology at Tajik National University; Raufov Rahmatullo, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Geography at Tajik State Pedagogical University named after S. Aini; and Rahimzoda Bakhtiyor, Lead Specialist at the Nature Department of the National Museum. The conference also welcomed faculty members and students from Tajik National University, Tajik State Pedagogical University named after S. Aini, and the Tajik State Institute of Culture and Arts named after M. Tursunzade, along with representatives of the media. During the event, scholars and researchers presented scientific reports on topics such as: “Tajikistan – A Global Leader in Glacier Research” “Protecting Glaciers – Saving Humanity” “Implementation of the Leader of the Nation’s Initiatives in Water and Climate Policy” “Glaciers – The Primary Source of Drinking Water” “Reflection of the Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon’s Initiatives on Water and Glacier Conservation in the National Museum” After the conclusion of the national scientific conference “Glaciers – Tajikistan’s Priceless Treasure,” participants visited the “Global Initiatives of the Republic of Tajikistan in Water Resources and Glacier Conservation” hall at the National Museum.
